Friendly Event at Westover Church

The goal of the Soccer Foundation is to provide access to soccer for kids across Greensboro.  Since last March Foundation players from the Eastside of Greensboro have participated in our Saturday Soccer program at Presbyterian Church of the Cross (PCC).  Saturday Soccer includes players from 5-18 years of age and all abilities.  The over 70 players are from diverse backgrounds and over 12 different countries.  Many of our players walk or ride their bikes to the sessions, but we do provide rides for some families that live farther away.  Westover Church, off Muirs Chapel, has also been providing a Saturday Soccer outreach opportunity for players on the Westside of town.  The program run by Allan Eades goes for 6 weeks in the Fall and Spring with approximately 20 players. Both programs provide a positive safe environment for children with limited access to the sport.

In an effort to provide the Westover Church players and our PCC kids with an opportunity to play others and build community, the two groups participated in a soccer scramble and lunch at Westover Church. On Saturday November 3rd, the 25 players from the two groups mixed up to play 11v11.  The goal is that next spring the Soccer Foundation will help to grow the Westover Church program and have HS players compete in the recreation league as well.
