Summer Camps

Project Effort: For the past four summers children from the various communities served by the Center for New North Carolinians have come together for a week-long soccer camp. It is an incredible camp where children from African, Southeast Asia, Central America and many born in the US come together to enjoy activities and learn to work with others. The staff of the camp consists of high school Youth Leadership Corps members, volunteer coaches in the community and college coaches. Soccer and school clothing are collected the months leading up to the camp, so that children receive new and gently used apparel throughout the week. Not only are kids exposed to new coaches, but several of the clubs in the area will also help to scholarship any players that are interested in pursuing soccer in the club.

Soccer Nights: In partnership with Fellowship Church and The Central Unit Boys and Girls club, Greensboro United has helped to run a week-long camp at Smith Soccer Complex. Last year over 400 players from around the Greensboro area registered for the program. Volunteers from the community partnered with GUSA coaches to run a series of soccer stations each night. The camp culminated with a cookout and contest night at The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club. Each player received a camp t-shirt and soccer ball along with a chance to win various prizes that were given out at the cookout. This amazing program highlights the partnership of various local organizations and the work of BT Burke, who is the chaplain at the Guilford County Jail.

Boys and Girls Club: Each semester the Foundation works with the Boys and Girls Club to hold sessions twice each week for 12 weeks.  During the course of this time our coaches connect with players as coach-mentors.  Therefore each summer we help provide soccer sessions for the Boys and Girls Club during their summer camps.  This is a time for our coaches to stay connected with players outside of the school year and help players to continue to develop their soccer and leadership skills.  The camp also offers a unique opportunity for our high school leaders to work assisting our coaches.
